TfGM – Committed to improving environmental performance

The primary role of Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is to facilitate more than 278 million passenger journeys every year across Greater Manchester, the UK’s largest city regional economy outside London. In 2009, 236 million of these public transport journeys were made by bus, over 22 million by rail, and some 20 million by Metrolink.

A transport strategy for the 21st century

With a Corporate Objective dedicated to environment and sustainability, TfGM is working within its own activities and with operators and stakeholders to reduce pollution and to tackle climate change. Key activities include: expanding and modernising its Metrolink network, investing in rail station upgrades and improvements, piloting solar-powered ticket machines, providing park-and-ride facilities, and introducing sustainable procurement systems.
